Native Station: Lazarus

This band has been gracing our scene with their art since about 2016 and over that time they have earned tons of respect and love by not only showcasing their wonderful music but also being vital and beloved members of our community. The carefully designed musical approach and poetic sensibilities of the band have become their hallmarks. It’s rock and roll, yes, but it’s got a dynamic range that reaches beyond the typical conventions of that genre. Progressive something something? I’m not exactly sure how to properly language it. It's catchy. It's electric. It's exciting. It's got a lot of thought behind it but it's still fun. Fun! It's nice when songs are fun, god dammit.

In this new tune “Lazarus” the band feels really dialed in. They’ve been playing lots of shows and it’s obvious that they understand what makes their sound work. The tight musical performances leave room for the very intricate orchestration here that could otherwise start to make a mess if it were performed by artists who didn’t understand this dynamic. The chorus is singable and memorable. It’ll show up in your mind days after hearing it and you'll be glad. It’s a well designed piece that transmits its energy intside you and cranks on the dopamine in your brain.

Suggested use: Turn this up in your car on the way to the party. Keep the windows up so the wind doesn’t try to drown out a single note from this catchy, enthusiastic, banger of a fucking song.

Greg Benton, frontperson for the band is a fabulous lyricist and performer who takes his craft sincerely and makes his art very purposefully. He’s one of my favorite songwriters and his talent can only be matched by his class and dedication. Everyone in Native Station matches that vibe really well. They are all talented and dedicated to the art they are making. Professional level artists. They seem to keep a pretty balanced ego too even though it’s obvious they are genuinely great. These are wonderful people who you can be proud to support.

Score: Fuck Yes
