Angel Corsi: Songs for Lovers

This album is full of beautiful vulnerable expressions by way of acoustic guitar and big memorable choruses. Each song is a little window into the worldview of the artist. I think that's probably one of the most important features an album can have, a point of view. Mr. Corsi is a very clear communicator and he uses that skill masterfully when composing his lyrics. In the song “Ribollita” the artist invites us to a big family dinner and uses it as an opportunity to talk about the relationship between heritage and evolution. He tells us about how he learned his family’s recipes; which he presents as not only nostalgic but culturally important. Eventually he made those recipes his own, injecting his own identity into the larger cultural context of the ritual. If I had been writing this song it probably would've ended up being clunky and cliché. In the hands of Mr. Corsi it became a succulent, aromatic, and heart warming family dinner full of beautiful memories and life lessons. Really nice experience. Really nicely crafted song.

The rest of the album maintains the concept of a few high-quality ingredients coming together in beautiful purposeful ways to create delicious experiences. The acoustic guitar is mixed in a way that really fills up the sonic space but leaves plenty of room for the dynamic and multi layered vocal performances. The choruses are especially rich and layered with lots of harmonies that push my beauty button. It’s an easy listen. I let it play while I sprawled out on the rug in the living room of my partners house this morning. As I drank coffee and smoked weed, I let each song have some space in my heart. Each was a welcome guest and left me feeling full and glad.

This is what I'd call "a songwriter's album". You don't need to be a songwriter to appreciate it but if you happen to be someone who studies this craft, I think you'll find lots of good nutrition here. In a modern musical context where meaningfulness seems to have gone by the wayside, it's refreshing to hear a genuinely artful and meaningful collection of tunes.

Other stand out tracks include: “That’s What Love Is”, “Redeye”, and “Stay”.

The album is absolutely worth your time. It’s a genuine and vulnerable expression from an artist who has spent the time to develop a very high level skillset. Angel Corsi is a gift. He’s a gifted gift. He’s a gifted gift who keeps on giving.

It’s an art piece our community can be proud to celebrate.
